Produce Buyer

Purchase produce for resale. Determine the timing and quantity of items to purchase based on a detailed understanding of products, suppliers, market, quality and forecasting indicators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Selects and orders commodities from growers or purchases commodities on open market basing selection on nature of clientele, or demand for specific commodity utilizing knowledge of various articles of commerce and experience as buyer
• Inspects and grades or appraises agricultural commodities offered for sale to determine value and yield and manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supply
• Negotiate prices from suppliers, establish and maintain those relationships
• Continually assess market competition, track and measure sales and profitability
• Seasonal travel
• Work directly with Dispatcher on purchased commodities to ensure products will get loaded and delivered

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 4-5 years of produce experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills – must be able to negotiate with vendors and work with all internal departments
• Analytical problem-solving skills
• Computer skills with the ability to enter data accurately
• Ability to market purchased produce to be sold in order to manage inventory – work directly with sales to ensure ad items or specials are being sold accordingly

Routes are scheduled so you know when you will be home, team drivers run four days a week and spend only two non-consecutive nights on the road with the option for more work and more money. These are full-time year around routes!

SUMMARY STATEMENT: Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, 5 axle multi-configuration, 48 and/or 53 ft trailer to transport produce to and from specified destinations. Transport is both interstate and intrastate. Drivers must have good customer relationship skills and abilities.

Must have clean MVR (5 years) and meet insurability requirements.
